Sharing Community Knowledge

Knowledge has always been a key component of rural community development. Today, knowledge built over millennia is in danger of being lost due to the imposition of modern agricultural techniques, gauged to productivity and profit, that often override the interests of small-scale farmers. Yet technical and scientific development could also be oriented to significant improvements and benefits.

How can traditional know-how and culture be retrieved, and kept alive? In what ways can it be complemented by new scientific and technical developments? How can it be shared to benefit communities? What can new information and communication technologies contribute, whether for systematizing and exchanging knowledge, or for supporting production and trading systems?

This video explores these themes. Filmed during the Latin American "South-South Exchange Workshop: ICTs and Knowledge Sharing for Rural Community Development" (Ecuador 2006), it reflects input from different experiences in this region.

Duration: 15 min
In Spanish with English subtitles, in DVD and CD versions. The CD includes the book Knowledge sharing for rural development: challenges, experiences and methods and documents on the workshop)..
